Too often seen as a distant challenge, the fight against tropical diseases is also highly relevant for Germany: Health challenges do not stop at borders, and neither does responsibility.

👉 In our latest guest article, Sascha van Beek reflects on why the fight against tropical diseases is also crucial for Germany.

"The fight against NTDs is therefore not just a medical issue. It is a question of dignity, justice, and global responsibility. It is also a question of German interests and responsibility in an interconnected world." – Sascha van Beek, MdB, Chairman of the German Parliamentary Advisory Council on Neglected Tropical Diseases.

On 3 February 2026 (4:00–5:00 PM), the GLOHRA Academy Series, organised in cooperation with Amref Health Africa (Germany), welcomes Prof. Dr. Walter Bruchhausen (University of Bonn) as guest speaker.

In his talk, “The long history of Primary Health Care between North and South, East and West,” Prof. Bruchhausen will explore how ideas of primary health care have emerged, travelled, and been reinterpreted across regions and political systems over time. Drawing on perspectives from global health history, ethics, and medical anthropology, the session highlights the value of interdisciplinary and international approaches to global health research.

The event features a 30-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute interactive Q&A, encouraging open academic exchange and discussion 💬✨.
As part of the GLOHRA Academy Series, held every first Tuesday of the month, the session focuses not only on research findings but also on research processes, methods, and lessons learned.
