Research and teaching in global health/planetary health/one health are essential for developing innovative solutions to global health challenges such as climate change, health crises, and inadequate healthcare systems.

Question: How would your party specifically promote and support research and capacity building in this field, particularly in terms of interdisciplinary collaboration, implementation research and the involvement of all healthcare professions? In your opinion, which countries, areas or professions should be prioritized to enhance and sustain global healthcare?

How would you support (technically and financially) to implement the equity concept? i.e. All money goes to Berlin, Africa and Basic research (without adding gender!)

    Many thanks,

Sonia from Colombia, working in Freiburg and on Implementation Research.

Dear Member of the Stakeholder Group Academia,

In the upcoming election, the Global Health Hub Germany would like to submit eight questions related to global health to the political parties as part of our electoral assessment. We aim to understand the objectives various parties seek to achieve in global health and the specific measures they plan to implement during the new legislative period.

I want to involve you in this process because one question regarding our Stakeholder Group is crucial and should not be overlooked. I have proposed a question and would appreciate your comments by December 7, 2024. I have included a German and an English version of the question so everyone can contribute. The final Version will be in German.

You are also welcome to formulate new questions... this is only meant to be a first suggestion!

Looking forward to your comments and suggestions

My experience has significantly shaped my perspective on global health. I witnessed the challenges of accessing healthcare for children in rural Afghanistan. While working in community healthcare settings, I saw the severe impact of preventable diseases such as respiratory infections, diarrhoea, and malnutrition. Implementing Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) protocols and training local health workers improved child health outcomes. Efforts to enhance vaccination and community-based nutrition programs proved to be vital. This experience underscored the potential to overcome healthcare barriers through community engagement and targeted interventions, profoundly influencing my understanding of global health.

      Best regards

As a schoolboy, I witnessedA personal experience that profoundly shaped my perspective on global health occurred during my childhood in Afghanistan. As a schoolboy, I witnessed a pregnant woman die by the roadside because there were no vehicles available to take her to the nearest health facility, which was two hours away by car. This tragic event ignited my passion for becoming a medical doctor to help people in underserved areas. Over the years, working in the hospital, I realized I couldn’t make a bigger impact unless I moved to work in the public and global health sector. I have worked in advisory and leadership roles in public health in my country, and this drive led me to pursue advanced studies and a career in public health both in Heidelberg, Germany, and the USA. Later, I had the opportunity to work on improving health systems and access to healthcare across South and Central Asia and Europe (Germany and others), including managing multinational projects funded by organizations like the Asian Development Bank, the Global Fund, UN, WB, and national governments. Currently, I teach global health to graduate students at Arden University in Berlin.  More ...
