The 5th PH3 Winter Conference – Public Health Austria, Germany, Switzerland will take place on January 15–16, 2027, in Ermatingen, Switzerland. ❄️🌍

The conference centers on the Public Health Index, a tool assessing the implementation of evidence-based structural measures to promote healthy lifestyles in the areas of tobacco, alcohol, nutrition, and physical activity. German-speaking countries ranked low in a European comparison, prompting a critical discussion of why and exploring potential solutions. 💡📊

Researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from diverse disciplines—including public health, social medicine, political and cultural sciences, and local governance—are invited to share insights, best-practice examples, and work-in-progress projects. The program encourages interdisciplinary dialogue on policy implementation, structural interventions, and the translation of research into practice. 🤝🏥

Abstract submissions are open until June 30, 2026, with selected presenters giving 8–10 minute talks. The conference offers a unique opportunity to compare cross-border Public Health practices, learn from each other, and co-develop strategies to strengthen health promotion in the DACH region. 📌✨

We warmly invite you to our upcoming webinar "Food Systems under Pressure" on October 27, 15:00-16:15 CET as part of our new webinar series "Connecting Climate Change and Health".

Climate change is undermining food systems worldwide: droughts, floods and heat reduce harvests, disrupt supply chains and drive up food prices. The health consequences are severe, ranging from acute malnutrition in drought-affected regions such as the Horn of Africa to an increased risk of food-borne diseases and a growing burden of diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The webinar will therefore explore how we can build food systems that are resilient and sustainable in order to protect nutrition and health.

Agenda

  • 15:00–15:10 Welcome and introduction to the webinar series
  • 15:10–15:20 Input 1 - Climate Change & Food Security: Risks and Solution Pathways
  • 15:20–15:30 Input 2 - Healthy, Climate-Resilient Diets: Benefits, Challenges and Potentials
  • 15:30–15:40 Input 3 - Extreme Weather Events and Malnutrition: Heath Impacts on the Ground
  • 15:40–16:10 Moderated Q&A
  • 16:10–16:15 Summary and Closing

Speakers

  • Dr. Christine Chemnitz, Director, Agora Agrar
  • Dr. Marco Springmann, Senior Researcher in Environment and Health, Environmental Change Institute (ECI), University of Oxford and Professorial Research Fellow, Institute for Global Health, University College London
  • Alina Seebacher, Advocacy Officer Climate, Food Security & Health, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Germany

Co-founder, Thémis

Stéphanie van de Werve co-founded Thémis with Fatoumata Ly, out of the strong belief that women’s health was missing an infrastructure. Before that, she spent 15 years developing programmes in foundations and think tanks (Institut Montaigne, Tony Blair Institute, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace). Her work has focused on turning research and policy into strategies that get results.

Founded in 2025, Thémis is a pan-European influence platform to integrate women’s health into every public and economic decision. Its mission is to make women’s health a core metric of public policy and economic development by 2035. Thémis works across five areas: citizen participation, measurement through the Women’s Health Index, research, policy translation, and culture change.

The input will be followed by a Q&A, so we hope to see many of you there
