Martin Lajous (National Institute of Public Health, Mexico & Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Poland)
🗣️ Talk Title: "Estimating effects on all-cause mortality in the presence of COVID-19 deaths"

In this presentation, Lajous will explore how the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced new challenges for epidemiologic cohorts evaluating the impact of risk factors on non-communicable disease mortality. Using data from the Mexican Teachers’ Cohort and the Polish-Norwegian Study, he will discuss patterns of mortality during and after the pandemic, and outline various causal inference methods for dealing with competing risks like COVID-19 deaths. The talk will also delve into advanced analytic strategies such as g-formula, IPTW, and separable treatment effects, including their application in real-world studies on colon and prostate cancer.

We cordially invite you to the Tropical Medicine Symposium at the Charité.

Modern tropical medicine not only addresses the classic infectious diseases of warm regions, but also the social determinants of health and the economic aspects of healthcare in middle- and low-income countries. The boundaries between curative and population-based preventive medicine are often fluid. The same applies to the closely related fields of international and global health and migration medicine. The Institute of International Health is located at the intersection of these topics. Here, patient care (returning travelers, migrants), specialized diagnostics, the prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases, and research activities in Berlin and abroad converge. Constantly changing infection patterns and new diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive options shape our daily lives.

We hope this event will provide you with insight into the changing, exciting, and broad field of modern tropical medicine. The speakers will be available for discussion afterward. The Interdisciplinary Expert Centre on Climate Change and Health (IECCCH) at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences invites researchers, policymakers, and health professionals to an online expert seminar on May 13, 2025, focusing on the intersection of climate change, malaria, and health resilience in Africa.

With climate change accelerating the spread of malaria and other infectious diseases, this event will explore AI-driven disease surveillance, climate-smart health systems, and policy solutions to strengthen health resilience. Keynote lectures and parallel sessions will highlight innovative approaches, including global collaboration and community-based adaptation strategies.

Three years after the adoption of the European Union Global Health Strategy, the European Commission is organising the 2025 Global Health Policy Forum (GHPF). 

Global health stakeholders will gather to take stock of the implementation of the Strategy, assess current and future challenges, and discuss what lies ahead for the global health agenda. The objective of the Forum is to foster constructive dialogue and strengthen engagement among key global health stakeholders. 

Registration is mandatory for both in-person and online participants. Registrations are open until 14 April 2025. Your participation will be confirmed by email. In person attendance will be confirmed after the registration deadline

The Global Health Policy Forum will take place on 15 May 2025 in a hybrid format to allow broad participation from global stakeholders. The in-person meeting will be hosted at the Conference Centre Albert Borschette (CCAB), room 0D, Rue Froissart 36, 1049 Brussels.

The Robert Koch Colloquium is an annual interdisciplinary lecture series hosted by the Robert Koch Institute. Each year, the colloquium focuses on a cutting-edge public health theme, bringing together leading experts to present and discuss their research and insights.
This year’s colloquium centres on the theme “Empowering Public Health: From Data to Global Health,” exploring the transformative potential of digitalization, data analytics, and advanced technologies in addressing public health challenges worldwide.
It will take place in a hybrid format from Monday 19 May (1pm CET) to Tuesday 20 May (3pm CET). The lectures will be held at the headquarters of the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin and concurrently livestreamed.

This in-person workshop, hosted by the University of Hamburg and supported by EUGLOH and the Claussen-Simon Foundation, explores the intersection of entrepreneurship, health innovation, and cutting-edge research infrastructures. The 14th International Global Health Summer School, hosted by IPPNW Germany in cooperation with Charité Berlin, invites 25 participants to join an immersive, interdisciplinary program exploring the urgent intersections of climate justice, health, and peace.

In a time of ecological collapse, backlash against climate action, and widening health inequities, this year's theme is a call to critically examine the systems at the root of these crises—and to reimagine them through collective care and interdependence.

Through an intersectional, decolonial lens, the program will feature presentations, workshops, and excursions, bridging professional and activist perspectives. Participants will reflect, connect, and co-create in a space dedicated to dialogue, learning, and transformative thinking.

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Theodor Bilharz, the discoverer of Schistosoma haematobium, leading research institutions from Germany and Gabon have come together to host a landmark conference in Tübingen. The event is co-organized by the University Hospital Tübingen, Technical University Munich, Justus-Liebig University Gießen, and the Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL) in Gabon.

The meeting aims to bring together experts, researchers, and students from across the globe to exchange insights, present new research, and discuss future directions in the fight against schistosomiasis.
