Delayed presentation remains a key modifiable predictor of severe outcomes among children affected by snakebite in Sub-Saharan Africa. This infographic summarizes findings from our systematic review and highlights opportunities to strengthen early recognition, timely referral, standardized paediatric protocols and equitable access to antivenom.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Joseph Ahrim, I am a Biologist from Ecuador and a Master's degree in Computational Biology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE). I am very pleased to join this community and connect with researchers and professionals who share an interest in snakebite envenoming.

My current research focuses on the identification and characterization of novel proteins in the venom gland transcriptomes of pit vipers, particularly Bothrops asper. Through transcriptomic and bioinformatic approaches, I aim to improve our understanding of venom evolution, toxin diversity, and their potential biomedical applications.
I am fascinated by toxins, their structure and modes of action. I hope to continue studying them now at a spatial transcriptomic level to discover their secrets and incredible uses.
I look forward to learning from your experiences, make friends, exchanging ideas, and exploring opportunities for collaboration.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Htain Lin Aung, and I am a medical doctor from Myanmar. I recently completed my Master of Science in International Health (MScIH) at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, Heidelberg University, Germany.

My academic and professional interests focus on implementation research and health systems, particularly in HIV, tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and neglected tropical diseases. Over the years, I have worked in public health, medical education, and international health programs in Myanmar and beyond.

I am currently developing an early-stage implementation research concept on snakebite envenoming in Sub-Saharan Africa. I believe that joining this community will help me refine the research idea, strengthen the study design, learn from experienced colleagues, build collaborations, and explore future funding opportunities.

I am excited to learn from all of you and contribute to discussions whenever possible. Thank you for welcoming me to this community.

Thanks, Prof. Ulrich Kuch, for warmly inviting me to this group.

    Yours sincerely,

    Htain Lin Aung

    Hello everyone in the community,

With the complex political and armed conflicts in Myanmar, snakebite envenoming is still the most neglected tropical disease in my homeland. There are shortages of snake antivenoms in the conflict-affected areas due to the strict control of the medical logistics by the military regime. This limitation is one of the big challenges in Myanmar.
In 2025, at the GHHG conference in Berlin and the 2026 Hospital Partnership conference in Ulm, I had the opportunity to participate in a poster presentation on Snakebite in Conflict Settings with Dr. Kuch, Prof. Martin, and Prof. Waheb. I hope to work more effectively and conduct more research on this topic for the vulnerable community in the future.
I look forward to learning more from all of you.
