Technical Officer – Health Promotion, Disease Prevention & Control | WHO | Application deadline: 14 September 2026

🌍 The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a Technical Officer (P3) to support regional and national efforts on cancer prevention and control, with a particular focus on childhood cancer, within its Health Promotion, Disease Prevention & Control Directorate in Cairo, Egypt.

📌 Position details:
Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 1 year
Duty station: Cairo, Egypt
Grade: P3
Extension subject to funding, satisfactory performance and continuing need.

🧬 Main responsibilities:
Provide technical advice to Member States on cancer prevention and control, particularly the implementation of comprehensive national responses to childhood cancer and other common cancers. Support the development and revision of national cancer-control programmes and plans within broader NCD strategies. Assess childhood cancer policies, infrastructure and programmes across countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). Establish information-sharing networks and promote WHO guidance and tools. Support national capacity-building through regional and country workshops, knowledge exchange and dissemination of technical guidance. Facilitate partnerships supporting the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer and access to childhood cancer medicines. Supervise consultants and contribute to wider WHO work on NCD and cancer prevention and control. 🎗️🌐

👤 Candidate profile:
University degree in Medicine, public health or a directly relevant field required. An advanced degree in oncology is an asset. Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, including medicine/public health practice and cancer control in low- and middle-income countries, with international exposure. Experience with WHO, the UN system or other international health organisations—particularly in the EMR—is desirable. Strong knowledge of the political, social and health systems of EMR countries, as well as technical expertise in NCD prevention, management and cancer control, is required.

🗣️ Languages:
Expert English required.
Intermediate French and Arabic desirable.

💰 Remuneration & benefits:
Annual base salary starting at USD 71,335, plus a variable post adjustment currently USD 1,718/month for Cairo. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave and an education grant for dependent children.

🚨 This role is particularly suited to an experienced medical or public health professional specialising in cancer control, with international experience and a strong understanding of health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
