Health Systems Officer – AI for Health | WHO – World Health Organization | Application deadline: 3 September 2026

The World Health Organization's Country Office for India is seeking a Health Systems Officer – AI for Health to lead its technical work on artificial intelligence and digital innovation for health systems strengthening. The role is based in New Delhi and supports national and subnational authorities in advancing the responsible, equitable and evidence-based use of AI for health, in line with WHO guidance on ethics, governance and regulation.
Position sought: A mid-level technical officer to drive WHO India's strategic agenda on AI for Health, working closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and other stakeholders on implementation of India's Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (SAHI), released in February 2026.

Main tasks: Lead technical work on AI and digital innovation to strengthen India's health systems; coordinate with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and other stakeholders to implement SAHI across its five strategic pillars (governance and trust, health data and digital infrastructure, workforce and institutional capacity, research and innovation, and ecosystem enablement); provide technical support; develop governance frameworks; and promote the integration of AI into health systems.

Profile requirements: An advanced degree in public health, health policy, health informatics or a related field; at least two years of experience working with India's health system; familiarity with AI applications in healthcare; an understanding of India's digital health architecture; and experience in stakeholder coordination and policy analysis. Fluency in English is required.

Location: New Delhi, India. Full-time, Special Services Agreement (SSA) for a contract duration of 12 months.
