The Max Rubner Institute (MRI) in Karlsruhe is seeking a senior scientist to serve as Deputy Head of the Institute of Nutritional Epidemiology and Physiology and Head of the Nutrition Epidemiology research group. The position is permanent, full-time or part-time, starting 01 July 2026, with up to 20% travel and options for mobile working.
Key responsibilities include supporting institute leadership in management and organisational tasks, deputising for the director, and leading the nutrition epidemiology group. This involves coordinating research activities, managing staff, conducting epidemiological studies and statistical analyses, acquiring third-party funded projects, publishing scientific work, advising policymakers, and representing the institute nationally and internationally.
Applicants should hold a Master’s (or equivalent) in epidemiology or nutrition science plus a strong research background (typically a PhD with good grade), proven publication record, experience in leading teams and managing research projects, and excellent German and English skills. Expertise in areas such as obesity and diet-related diseases, policy advising, and international collaboration is an advantage.
The role offers either a civil servant position (B1 level) or a permanent public sector contract (TVöD E15), flexible and family-friendly working conditions, and the opportunity to contribute to high-level policy-relevant research in nutrition and public health 🏛️📊
