The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is Germany’s central institution for disease control and public health, employing around 1,500 staff from over 52 countries. It focuses on collecting and analysing health data, identifying risks, advising policymakers, and advancing scientific methods.

The position is based in Department 27 – Health Behaviour, which studies trends in health-related behaviours in Germany (e.g. nutrition, physical activity, tobacco and alcohol consumption) to inform prevention and health policy.

🧩 Key responsibilities

* Plan and conduct primary data collection on health behaviour
* Perform statistical and epidemiological analyses (e.g. trends, prevalence, longitudinal studies) 📊
* Publish scientific papers and contribute to national health reporting
* Support study design and questionnaire development

👤 Profile requirements

* Degree in epidemiology, public health, psychology, sociology, statistics, data science, or related field
* PhD desirable 🎓
* Strong quantitative data analysis skills (e.g. Stata, SAS, or R)
* Experience in health behaviour research and/or prevention
* Experience with epidemiological studies, surveys, and scientific publishing
* Languages: German (C1), English (B2)

➕ Additional assets

* Experience with committees, secondary or geospatial data
* Strong analytical thinking, project management, and teamwork skills
