The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), in partnership with The World Academy of Sciences, supports short-term research visits in Germany for early-career researchers from sub-Saharan Africa.

OVERVIEW

* 3-month research visits at German institutions
* open to all disciplines
* aims to foster new international research collaborations

ELIGIBILITY

* researchers based in sub-Saharan African countries
* at least 5 years of experience in research or academia
* PhD obtained in 2021 or later (extensions possible)
* no prior collaboration with the German host

FUNDING

* up to €2,350 per month for accommodation and visa
* up to €1,350 for travel costs
* up to €700 per month for project costs

APPLICATION PROCESS

* submitted by the visiting researcher to TWAS
* requires an invitation letter from a German host institution
* deadline: 15 April 2026

* hosts should ensure strong collaboration potential
* host institutions support travel and accommodation arrangements
* follow-up collaboration funding may be available through DFG
