Position sought:
LMU Munich invites applications for two fully funded Ph.D. positions in the Medical Research in Epidemiology and Public Health (PhD EPH) program at the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry, and Epidemiology (IBE). The English-taught, structured doctoral program is embedded in the Munich Medical Research School and the Pettenkofer School of Public Health and is funded by the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP).
Key focus & tasks:
• Conduct doctoral research in epidemiology and public health within an interdisciplinary environment
• Develop and implement an independent research project (research proposal required)
• Participate in a structured PhD training program with advanced methodological coursework
• Collaborate with international researchers and institutions
• Option to conduct research phases outside Germany (up to 25% of funding period)
Areas of study include:
• Clinical, Molecular & Genetic Epidemiology
• Clinical Trials & Translational Medicine
• Environmental Health & Risk Factors
• Genomic & Molecular Medicine
• Digital Health
• Evidence-based Prevention & Public Health
• Health Services Research & Health Economics
Required profile:
• Master’s, Diploma, or State Examination degree
• Background in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, medicine, health economics, bioinformatics, or related fields
• Excellent academic performance and strong research motivation
• Applicants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are particularly encouraged
• Fluent English
• No previous doctoral degree
Eligibility conditions (key points):
• Last final exam completed within the past 6 years
• Not resided in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of nomination
• Application must be submitted online only (no email or postal applications)
Funding & conditions:
• Full scholarship for 3 years, with option for a 4th year
• Start date: 15 October 2026
