Position: Senior Expert for Resilience & Climate Adaptation
Start date: 01 February 2026
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Contract: 2 years (extension desired)
Key tasks:
• Coordinate European policy & advocacy (position papers, policy briefs, EU consultations)
• Build networks with EU institutions & Brussels-based stakeholders
• Lead and coordinate Horizon Europe project tasks & budgets
• Support cities in planning and implementing climate resilience measures
• Organise and facilitate events, workshops, peer-learning sessions
• Contribute to ICLEI services and tools for resilient, nature-based development
• Lead acquisition of new projects and write proposals
Profile requirements:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in resilience, climate adaptation or sustainable urban development
• Strong knowledge of EU policy landscape & advocacy processes
• Experience working with/for local governments and network organisations
• Excellent communication (English + 1 other European language)
• Confident working with diverse partners (grassroots to ministries)
• Experience with Horizon Europe / EU Missions projects
• Understanding of ICLEI’s mission & Benelux context
• EU citizenship or valid EU residence & Belgian work permit
• Independent, proactive, collaborative, able to work in fast-paced settings
What’s offered:
• Initial 24-month contract, high extension potential
• Salary approx. €67,000–70,000/year
• 40h/week, flexible hours, up to 50% remote
• 6 weeks paid leave per year
• International, family-friendly, mission-driven environment
• Occasional European travel
