The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) — Germany’s national Public Health Institute — is seeking a Head of Department for Epidemiology and Health Monitoring (d/m/w) to lead key research and policy initiatives aimed at improving population health in Germany.

🧭 Main Tasks
• Lead and manage Department 2 (Epidemiology & Health Monitoring) — including strategic, organizational, and budget responsibilities
• Coordinate and align research divisions and projects across the department
• Shape the strategic direction of RKI’s Public Health Surveillance
• Represent the department to ministries, policymakers, academia, and the public
• Collaborate in national and international committees and projects
• Initiate and acquire third-party funded research projects
• Contribute to scientific publications and strengthen cooperation with the Public Health Service

🎓 Profile
• Doctorate in Medicine, Psychology, Public Health, Mathematics, Statistics, Health or Social Sciences (Master’s, State Exam, or University Diploma required)
• Habilitation or equivalent qualification desirable
• Additional training in Public Health or Epidemiology (e.g. MPH or MSc Epidemiology) preferred
• Proven experience in research, teaching, and project management
• Strong record of scientific publications and successful funding acquisition
• Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and managing large health studies
• Excellent German (C2) and English (C1) skills

💰 What’s Offered
• Permanent position (unlimited contract)
• Salary up to grade B3 BBesO (senior civil service level)
• Location: Berlin
• Start date: As soon as possible
