🍂 Fall School 2025: Understanding Heterogeneity in Cardiology


The Institute for Gender in Medicine (GiM) of the CharitĂ© is organizing a Fall School on “Understanding Heterogeneity in Cardiology,” open to doctoral candidates and students. The program addresses the gender data gap in clinical research, exploring innovative strategies for gender-sensitive medicine through a mix of theoretical input, methodological training, and patients’ perspectives.


✹ With funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), participation is free of charge. Limited support for travel, accommodation, and meals is available. Successful completion will be recognized with 2.65 ECTS credits, and participants will benefit from direct exchange with leading national and international experts.

Taking place from September 22–24, 2025, in Berlin, this collaborative event is all about turning ideas into action to advance a more responsible research culture and practice.

The event centers around a set of ten projects that were chosen in a rigorous selection process. These projects cover topics such as piloting reproducibility checks, enhancing preclinical systematic reviews, and developing innovative, researcher-driven funding models, among many others.

During registration, participants choose the project they are most interested in supporting and join a small, focused team to help move it forward. Selected projects cover a wide range of important topics such as piloting reproducibility checks, improving preclinical review processes, and exploring innovative researcher-driven funding models, among others.

This event is hosted by the QUEST Center for Responsible Research at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) at CharitĂ© , the Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research and EXCELScIOR ERA Chair, University of Coimbra — with funding kindly provided by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Keynote speakers Martin Lercher, Charles F. Manski, Sarah C. Hull, Lars Schaade, and Naomi Allen will share insights to spark discussion on how epidemiology can adapt and lead in a changing world.


For the first time, the conference will feature a highlight session showcasing the best submissions from all methodological and thematic areas, reflecting the breadth and quality of epidemiological research in Germany.

Upcoming Event: NODE Final Symposium


Germany’s emergency care system is undergoing major transformation, with new models being tested to create more efficient, needs-based structures. The NODE Study, funded by the Innovation Fund of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), has compared cooperation between outpatient and inpatient emergency care in the Berlin region.


After three years of data collection and analysis, the first results are now available. The NODE team invites participants to a Final Symposium to discuss key findings together with leading representatives from clinical care, research, administration, politics, and international experts from Denmark.

The Institute for Research in International Assistance (IRIA) invites young researchers from across the globe to join the 7th International Young Researchers’ Symposium on Global Health. The symposium offers a platform for scientific exchange and collaboration, with all contributions to be published in Akkon University’s compendium.


October 11
The first day opens with a welcome session and the exhibition Unissued Diplomas, followed by international young researchers’ presentations on topics ranging from climate change and health to digital interventions and community health challenges. The evening concludes with the prestigious Virchow Prize Ceremony at Berlin’s Red City Hall.


October 12
The second day continues with presentations from young researchers representing countries including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Yemen, Pakistan, and Germany. The symposium wraps up with a summary and outlook, before participants transition to the World Health Summit in Berlin.

BEMC Talk – Harnessing the Power of Population-Based Data for Global Health Research


On Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 4:00 pm (CET), Maja Marcus of CharitĂ© – UniversitĂ€tsmedizin Berlin and Brigham and Women’s Hospital will deliver a hybrid talk entitled “Harnessing the Power of Population-Based Data for Global Health Research.”


The lecture will address how large-scale health datasets — from national surveys to multinational cohorts — can be harmonized and leveraged to answer urgent policy questions in global health. Highlighting the Global Health and Population Project on Access to Care for Cardiometabolic Diseases (HPACC), Dr. Marcus will explore both the challenges of working with diverse data sources and the transformative potential of integrated, policy-relevant datasets for advancing equitable and effective health policy.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is pervasive and often hidden, spanning physical harm as well as psychological violence and coercive control. This joint event by the Hertie School, the German Youth Institute, and the Einstein Center for Population Diversity brings together experts from academia, government and public institutions to discuss how IPV can be better measured, how data gaps can be closed across contexts, and how stronger evidence can inform prevention, protection and support strategies.
