Wolfgang Hein: As a new member of the GHH Collaboration Space I would like to introduce myself:
Studies at the University of Constance 1968 to 1976; MA History, Political Science, Sociology, Dr.rer.soc.(1983); 1976-1978: Institute of Development Studies, Brighton, UK; 1978 to 1988: Latin American Institute, Free University of Berlin.
From 1988 to 2013 I have been working at the GIGA, until 2025 as an Associate. Since the early 2000s my main focus has been on Global Health Governance. Between 2015 und 2019 I took part in various meetings in Berlin which led to the establishment of the GlobalHealthHub. For various personal reasons, later-in I did not take part in the aktivities of the GHH.
In recent years, I was a member of the Leibniz network „Infection“, working primarily on: Antimicrobial Resistance and national action plans (focus on Ghana and a comparative analysis, published in the Lancet Infectious Diseases); primarily, however, I completed two book publications (with Springer VS):
Mai 2025: Nachhaltige Gesundheitsversorgung in Entwicklungsländern und Global Health Governance (Sustainable Health Care in Developing Countries and Global Health Governance, published in German). This book focusses on the interaction among national health systems and global governance, including case studies on three countries with very different levels of health care Provision: Costa Rica, India, and the Democratic Republic of Congo).
Juni 2026: In cooperation with Professor Georg Simonis, the book "Globale Gesundheits- und Klimapolitik. Herausforderungen, Institutionen, Leistungen" (Global Health and Climate Politics. Challenges, Institutions, Achievements, in German) was published. It analyzes the establishment of multilateral systems of institutions and their increasing differentiation, which give some cause for hope that (at least in these two sectors) the infrastructure of global problem solving has reached a sufficient depth not to break up even in the face of far-reaching global political conflicts.
