It is a full-time, on-site programme for physicians who hold a medical degree (MD/MBBS or equivalent) from a medical school in any country and who are licensed to practise medicine in that country. Online participation is not possible. Registration is open until 31 January 2026.

  • The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine is Germany's oldest institution of its kind, having been founded in 1900. The DTMH has been held here since 1905.
  • You will be taught by experienced scientific and clinical experts from all departments of the BNITM and from many external national and international institutions.

The Diploma Course will train physicians to work in countries of the tropics or subtropics. The course will enable participants to diagnose and treat diseases in travellers and migrants from the tropics and subtropics and to provide preventive medical travel-related advice.

The course focuses on the aetiology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment of tropical diseases and clinical work in low-resource settings. It also covers travel medicine and principles of global health.

🌍 Circle U. Open Conversation: One Planet – One Health? 🌱

On April 22, 2026 (11:00–12:30), the Circle U. invites participants to an engaging online Open Conversation exploring how climate change is reshaping the way we think about health 🌡️🧠.

This session highlights the deep connections between climate change and disease across humans, animals, and ecosystems 🌿🐾—challenging traditional, human-centered medical perspectives. While much attention has been given to human health, the discussion will also shed light on often-overlooked plant diseases and their critical role in sustaining ecosystems and livelihoods 🌾.

Guided by the holistic One Health approach, leading experts—including researchers from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and UCLouvain—will explore new challenges and interdisciplinary solutions for global health in a changing climate 🌎.

📺 The event will be livestreamed, and registration is open until April 21.

The 7th RUHR School of Modern Epidemiology will take place from July 7–10, 2026 at the Haus der Technik in Essen. This year’s theme, “Applied Epidemiologic Analysis for Causal Inference,” focuses on strengthening both the theoretical foundations and practical application of causal methods in empirical research 📊.

The course will be led by Katherine Lesko (Johns Hopkins University), a renowned expert in causal inference known for her outstanding teaching and ability to translate complex methodology into hands-on analytical practice.

Over four intensive days, participants will explore key concepts such as causal identification conditions, potential outcomes, structural causal models (including DAGs), the target trial framework, estimands, target population principles, and g-methods. The program combines theory with practical “paper and pencil” exercises and hands-on computer labs using R or SAS 💻✏️. The goal is to equip attendees with the skills to confidently apply causal inference methods in their own studies.

The RUHR School is particularly relevant for professionals and researchers in clinical and epidemiological research, medical data science, and machine learning who aim to draw robust causal conclusions from empirical data 🔬.

Registration is open until June 2, 2026. Further details on course content and enrollment are available via the official RUHR School website.

🌟 Shaping Health Together: Facing Societal Challenges 🌟

The annual joint congress of leading medical societies is set to explore how health care can evolve to meet the challenges of our changing society. 💡 With rising costs, fragmented care, and social inequalities impacting health, experts agree it’s time for evidence-based policies that truly put people at the center.

This year, in celebration of DEGAM’s 60th anniversary, the congress will be held for the first time in collaboration with the German Society for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP), the Evidence-Based Medicine Network (EbM-Netzwerk), and the German Society for Medical Sociology (DGMS). Together, they will bring diverse perspectives to develop innovative solutions for today’s health challenges.

Join the discussion from September 30 to October 2, 2026, in Göttingen and help shape the future of health care. 🤝✨
