About This Event
Join us for the hearing: ‘Health security & emergency preparedness: building a safe and secure European Region’, from 10:00 AM-13:00 PM CET on Friday 07 March 2025.
Health emergencies have doubled in the past decade, with outbreaks and zoonotic pandemics expected to rise significantly. With further threats from climate change and conflict, efforts to transform health security are gaining momentum. In an era of permacrises, health security is a priority for a resilient health system that can not only handle any crisis but grow stronger, leading to healthier populations and a more stable and equitable future.
Health security as national security. Health security is integral to economic stability and social cohesion. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how quickly the world’s social and economic fabric can unravel due to an acute health emergency, reaffirming the centrality of health security as a precondition for national security.
Health security: a catalyzer for health systems resilience. Health security strengthens resilience by addressing systemic challenges such as fragile health services, CBRN hazards, MDR-TB, antimicrobial resistance, and rising NCDs. WHO/Europe supports countries in mitigating these threats while responding to growing challenges like political instability, aging populations, and declining trust in science.
