My experience has significantly shaped my perspective on global health. I witnessed the challenges of accessing healthcare for children in rural Afghanistan. While working in community healthcare settings, I saw the severe impact of preventable diseases such as respiratory infections, diarrhoea, and malnutrition. Implementing Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) protocols and training local health workers improved child health outcomes. Efforts to enhance vaccination and community-based nutrition programs proved to be vital. This experience underscored the potential to overcome healthcare barriers through community engagement and targeted interventions, profoundly influencing my understanding of global health.

      Best regards

As a schoolboy, I witnessed a pregnant woman die by the roadside because there were no vehicles available to take her to the nearest health facility, which was two hours away by car. This tragic event ignited my passion for becoming a medical doctor to help people in underserved areas. Over the years, working in the hospital, I realized I couldn’t make a bigger impact unless I moved to work in the public and global health sector. I have worked in advisory and leadership roles in public health in my country, and this drive led me to pursue advanced studies and a career in public health both in Heidelberg, Germany, and the USA. Later, I had the opportunity to work on improving health systems and access to healthcare across South and Central Asia and Europe (Germany and others), including managing multinational projects funded by organizations like the Asian Development Bank, the Global Fund, UN, WB, and national governments. Currently, I teach global health to graduate students at Arden University in Berlin.  Mehr...
