Dear Hub Members, it is time to say goodbye. After almost four years, my time at the Global Health Hub has come to an and I will move on to a new adventure with the newly established Movement Health Foundation.

It has been a pleasure to work for a network of so many dedicated individuals who strive to make a difference in global health. It has been amazing to see the commitment of so many of you in our Hub Communities and what can be achieved when putting together diverse non-state voices. It has been wonderful to serve you in your desire to advocate for change. It has been fun to brainstorm, plan, reflect, reinvent and laugh with our Hub Community Managers who are for me the key drivers of this member-owned platform. It has been a pain, but also a highlight, to develop the first ever Hub strategy with the Hub Steering Committee. Last but not least, my years at the Hub were marked by a fantastic, supportive, compassionate and wonderful team - the Hub Management Team.

I believe in the power of impact networks. So I leave you with this short video on why networks like the Hub are so important in making a change:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHk85ANDvaw. Best wishes to all of you in making the Hub an ever more powerful impact network.

From 1st July my colleagues Gast and Tanja Cohrs will be taking over my role as network and community leads. I am sure you they will provide you with outstanding support and fresh ideas.

The Global Mental Health Community organized a great informal exchange with Dr. Lisa Hoffmann, Senior Policy Officer at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), on the topic of mental health in conflict settings last week. BMZ is organizing a round table on this topic ("Seeing the Unseen") at this year's WHS and we were able to provide inputs and share insights.

It'sThanks again to the Hub Community on Global Mental Health for organizing such an insightful exchange on mental health in conflict settings! It's crucial to address the hidden costs of war, particularly on children's development and mental well-being. This article on 'The Hidden Costs of War in Syria' provides a shocking look at the impact of conflict on the most vulnerable populations. By learning from specific country cases like Syria, we can better understand the key challenges and develop effective strategies to support mental health in such challenging environments. Health and climate change are inextricably linked but are far too often thought of in silos - yet these areas need to be addressed across sectors and stakeholders to achieve positive change. However, to enact meaningful change, these issues must be addressed collaboratively across various sectors and stakeholders. To facilitate this collaboration, the Hub Community on Climate Change & Health has developed an interactive stakeholder map, showcasing how members of the Hub are addressing the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation on human health.

If you are a stakeholder in the field of planetary health and wish to raise the visibility of your institution, we invite you to become part of our interactive stakeholder map! Being featured on the map means others can connect and engage with you. If you are interested, please complete the questionnaire and send it to the Hub Management Team. The link to access the stakeholder map and the questionnaire can be found below.

Join us in creating synergies and collaborations on planetary health so that we can advance planetary health together!

    Dear all,

I realised that GHHG unfortunately does not have a community yet concerning the very important area of ECO care (emergency, critical and operative care), and I think that is something we should work on together!

    Dear all,

I realised that GHHG unfortunately does not have a community yet concerning the very important area of ECO care (emergency, critical and operative care), and I think that is something we should work on together!

Surgery and operative care is such a broad field, and includes besides common trauma care (now especially important in conflict and disaster zones), also significant parts of women's health (maternal health, FGM, breast cancer), child care, oncological care, pain management, emergency medicine, etc etc. There are already a few very good national and european/international organisations who focus on that, but I think it would be great if we could use our place and connections here as well!

Are you a surgeon, a gynaecologist, an anaethesiologist or someone else working in a sugical/operative field? Do you know someone that dows and would be interested?
What are your general thoughts about a Global Surgery Community?

Please let me know what you think!
Looking forward to hearing back from you,
    Charlotte

Together with Dr. Lisa Hoffmann from the German Ministry for Economic Development Cooperation (BMZ), we want to get together to discuss the issue of global mental health in conflict settings, our Hub Community theme for 2024-25.

Ms. Hoffmann will outline the work of BMZ in this area. We will then hear short impulses on different areas of conflict; man-made conflicts, natural disasters and climate change. Finally, we will discuss the specific challenges of mental health in these particular areas.

We look forward to your participation!
