IPPNW Germany, in cooperation with Charité Berlin, will host the 15th International Global Health Summer School in Berlin from 12–19 September 2026 🌍✨. Under the theme “From Health in Conflict to Medical Peace Work”, this year’s programme addresses the urgent challenges facing global health in times of escalating conflicts, displacement, and attacks on healthcare systems.

Participants will explore how structural violence—such as racism, gender inequality, and economic exploitation—continues to shape health outcomes worldwide, while also reflecting on the unique role health professionals can play in fostering peace 🕊️. The summer school brings together professional and activist perspectives, encouraging an intersectional and decolonial approach to global health and peace work.

A group of 25 participants will engage in interactive presentations, workshops, and excursions, creating a dynamic space for dialogue, reflection, and exchange of diverse experiences and ideas 🤝.

This Summer school will be held in English.

Applications are open until 26 April 2026. Interested individuals from all backgrounds—especially those affected by systemic discrimination—are warmly encouraged to apply.

🌟 Shaping Health Together: Facing Societal Challenges 🌟

The annual joint congress of leading medical societies is set to explore how health care can evolve to meet the challenges of our changing society. 💡 With rising costs, fragmented care, and social inequalities impacting health, experts agree it’s time for evidence-based policies that truly put people at the center.

This year, in celebration of DEGAM’s 60th anniversary, the congress will be held for the first time in collaboration with the German Society for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP), the Evidence-Based Medicine Network (EbM-Netzwerk), and the German Society for Medical Sociology (DGMS). Together, they will bring diverse perspectives to develop innovative solutions for today’s health challenges.

Join the discussion from September 30 to October 2, 2026, in Göttingen and help shape the future of health care. 🤝✨

🌍 Consultation Meeting: AMR Learning & Health Workforce Capacity Building

The WHO Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Department, in collaboration with the WHO Academy, is organizing a consultation meeting to support the development of a multi-year learning programme on antimicrobial resistance.

🦠 About the Event
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the major global health threats, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. Strengthening education and training for health professionals is a key priority identified in global commitments, including the 2024 World Health Assembly resolution and the UN General Assembly Political Declaration on AMR.

This consultation will contribute to the design of a country-focused learning strategy aimed at strengthening the health workforce and improving the prevention and management of infections.

🎯 Key Objectives

  • Identify priority topics and target audiences for an AMR learning programme

  • Map existing AMR learning initiatives and their uptake

  • Identify key gaps and opportunities for capacity building

  • Define the scope, approach, and expected outcomes of the learning strategy

  • Clarify roles and collaboration with partners

👥 Who Will Participate
Approximately 30–35 stakeholders working in AMR and infection prevention and control (IPC), including representatives from:

  • WHO headquarters, regional and country offices

  • WHO Academy

  • Member States (with strong representation from low- and middle-income countries)

  • Academia and professional associations

  • Intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, foundations, and donors

✉️ Participation
If you are interested in participating, please contact:
academy@who.int

ℹ️ Additional Information

  • The meeting will be held in English

  • Due to budget limitations, participant sponsorship will not be available

Publishing in academic journals is a central part of sharing research and contributing to scientific debate. Yet the publication process – from selecting an appropriate journal to preparing a manuscript and responding to peer review – often raises practical questions for researchers.

In this webinar, participants will gain insights into the publication process from the perspective of PLOS Global Public Health. PLOS Global Public Health is an open access forum for research that reaches across disciplines and regional boundaries to address the biggest health challenges and inequities facing our society today.

The session will provide practical guidance on preparing submissions, understanding editorial expectations, and navigating peer review. It will also introduce the different formats available, from original research articles to blog posts. Participants will have the opportunity to raise questions and discuss practical aspects of preparing and submitting their work for publication.

📢 Congress “Poverty and Health 2026” – Health is Political!

On 16–17 March 2026, the annual Congress Poverty and Health will take place in Berlin, hosted at the Henry-Ford-Bau at the Free University of Berlin. The congress invites participants to discuss the central theme “Health is political! What is equity in health worth to us as a society?”.

The program includes more than 100 sessions, bringing together experts and practitioners from science, healthcare, politics, civil society, and community organizations. The event will be opened by Ilona Kickbusch, a renowned global health expert. 🎤

Since 1995, the congress has served as an important platform for raising awareness about health inequalities in Germany and exploring solutions. Participants will discuss research findings, policy strategies, and practical experiences aimed at addressing the social determinants of health, such as housing, education, and employment. 🏥⚖️

The event also places a strong focus on young professionals and emerging voices, with special formats such as a Science Slam and sessions designed for early-career participants. 🎓

By bringing together diverse actors each year, the Congress helps strengthen advocacy for people affected by poverty and health inequality and promotes dialogue on how societies can create fairer health opportunities for all. 🌍

The 7th RUHR School of Modern Epidemiology will take place from July 7–10, 2026 at the Haus der Technik in Essen. This year’s theme, “Applied Epidemiologic Analysis for Causal Inference,” focuses on strengthening both the theoretical foundations and practical application of causal methods in empirical research 📊.

The course will be led by Katherine Lesko (Johns Hopkins University), a renowned expert in causal inference known for her outstanding teaching and ability to translate complex methodology into hands-on analytical practice.

Over four intensive days, participants will explore key concepts such as causal identification conditions, potential outcomes, structural causal models (including DAGs), the target trial framework, estimands, target population principles, and g-methods. The program combines theory with practical “paper and pencil” exercises and hands-on computer labs using R or SAS 💻✏️. The goal is to equip attendees with the skills to confidently apply causal inference methods in their own studies.

The RUHR School is particularly relevant for professionals and researchers in clinical and epidemiological research, medical data science, and machine learning who aim to draw robust causal conclusions from empirical data 🔬.

Registration is open until June 2, 2026. Further details on course content and enrollment are available via the official RUHR School website.
