Designing the Human? AI Between Progress and Responsibility
On 25 February (10:00ā16:00), the 11th Transfer Conference āeHealth & Societyā will explore a provocative question: What happens when the human being becomes a design object?
Under the title āDesignobjekt Menschā, the conference examines how artificial intelligence, medical innovation, and digital technologies are reshaping concepts of health, identity, and self-determination. From AI-assisted diagnostics and robotic surgery to social media filters, virtual avatars, longevity trends, and personalized medicine, the boundaries between enhancement, optimization, and societal pressure are increasingly blurred. šāØ
Bringing together experts from medicine, computer science, public health, ethics, sociology, psychology, and social work, the event will critically discuss both the opportunities and ethical dilemmas of digital transformation in healthcare. The concept of the āAugmented Doctorā will be explored alongside pressing questions: Who designs whom? Does AI empower human agency ā or redefine norms and expectations?
With new institutional partners and high-level public patronage, this yearās conference promises an interdisciplinary and forward-looking dialogue on how technological innovation can be aligned with social responsibility. āļøš„

Participation is free of charge; however, prior registration is required and is now open.
On Tuesday, 3 March 2026 (9:30ā11:30 am) in Berlin, the Global Perspectives Circle will convene a timely breakfast dialogue titled āBreaking Point or Turning Point: What Role Can Europe Play in Africa's Reproductive Health Future?ā
Following the abrupt closure of USAID programs and tightening European development budgets, last year marked a significant shift in global reproductive health funding. Yet leaders interviewed in the series āReproductive Health at a Turning Pointā highlighted that this disruption may also be catalyzing long-overdue change ā accelerating African-led approaches grounded in sustainable financing, regional manufacturing, and smarter cross-sector partnerships.
Moderated by senior global health leader Katri Bertram, the discussion will feature voices including Dr. Victoria Gamba (Independent Consultant, Obstetrician Gynecologist and Implementation Scientist) and Rosebell Kagumire (Editor of AfricanFeminism.com & Co-Founder of AfIP Collective). Together, participants from politics, civil society, and the private sector will explore key questions:
⢠Where should Germany and the EU co-invest strategically?
⢠Can private sector models deliver at scale?
⢠How can regional manufacturing strengthen supply chain resilience?
Held just ahead of International Womenās Day, this dialogue will present key findings from the interview series and connect African, German, and European stakeholders to identify concrete collaboration opportunities that advance sustainable, African-led solutions. š¤āØ
