Position sought:
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is seeking a Scientific Research Associate (Postdoctoral level, E13 TVöD) for the Einstein Research Unit (ERU) “Technologies in Global Health – From Innovation to Users (and Back)”. The position focuses on digital mental health for adolescents in Tanzania and Uganda.
Key tasks & responsibilities:
• Co-develop context-sensitive digital mental health technologies (mHealth) with adolescents
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative research in rural and urban settings
• Analyze how ecological, digital, and socio-cultural factors shape youth mental health
• Work with participatory and co-creation methods, involving young co-researchers
• Contribute to interdisciplinary case studies and evidence-based interventions
• Collaborate with international research partners in East Africa and the Berlin University Alliance
Required profile:
• Completed doctoral degree (qualification for a postdoctoral position)
• Strong expertise in global health or related fields
• Experience conducting research in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)
• Proven skills in qualitative and quantitative methods
• Data analysis experience using R, STATA, or SPSS
• Fluent English
Assets / preferred qualifications:
• Fieldwork experience in Africa (preferably East Africa)
• Experience with participatory research approaches
• Background in digital mental health and/or adolescent mental health
• Knowledge of German and/or Swahili
Key conditions & benefits:
• Start date: As soon as possible (project starts 1 January 2026)
• Contract: Fixed-term until 31 December 2028 (project-based)
• Working time: Full-time (position can be split into part-time roles)
• Salary: E13 TVöD
• 30 days annual leave, flexible working hours
• Dedicated time for own academic qualification (§110 BerlHG)
• Work in a highly interdisciplinary, international research environment within the Berlin University Alliance
