Scientist (Childhood Cancer Surveillance) | International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC-WHO), Lyon | Deadline: 5 Sept 2025

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the cancer research arm of the World Health Organization, is recruiting a Scientist (P2 level) for its Cancer Surveillance branch in Lyon, France. This role focuses on the ChildCan study, which develops and disseminates global data on childhood cancer burden via the Global Cancer Observatory.

Key Tasks
• Collect, manage, and analyze international cancer registry data (incidence, mortality, prevalence, survival).
• Develop statistical models and methodologies for childhood cancer burden estimates.
• Create and maintain an online resource for data dissemination.
• Coordinate multi-agency collaborations and reporting.
• Contribute to scientific publications, conferences, and grant proposals.

Profile Requirements
• PhD in Statistics, Informatics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, or related field.
• At least 2 years’ professional experience in statistics, data science, or similar field.
• Strong skills in statistical programming (R required; Python, C, SQL desirable).
• Experience handling large datasets and statistical modeling.
• Excellent written and verbal English; French or another UN language desirable.
• Experience with cancer research, online tool development, or competitive funding is an asset.

Contract & Benefits
• Temporary appointment (1 year, renewable based on funding and performance).
• Full-time, based in Lyon.
• Salary: starting USD 55,163 + monthly post adjustment (~USD 2,537 for Lyon, subject to change).
