Research Associate – Bioinformatics | Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Berlin | Deadline: 31 Aug 2025
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is seeking a Research Associate (d/f/m) in Bioinformatics to join its international team within the Health Security Partnership for Africa (HSPA) project, which strengthens collaboration with WHO and Africa CDC in biosafety and disease surveillance.
Tasks
• Develop and conduct training on genome sequencing and bioinformatics (at RKI and in partner countries).
• Provide remote support to partners in molecular data use and troubleshooting.
• Co-develop action plans with partners to build genomic sequencing capacity.
• Travel to African partner countries to assess national priorities for genomic surveillance.
Profile
• Master’s (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, informatics, molecular biology, biomedicine, or related life sciences.
• Strong skills in microbial genome data analysis (WGS, metagenomics), bioinformatics tools, programming (Python, R, Bash), and HPC/cloud computing.
• Experience with public sequence databases (NCBI, ENA).
• Languages: English C1, French B1, German A2 (or willingness to learn).
• Desirable: teaching/training experience, FAIR data principles, international/public health genomics experience, work abroad (especially Africa).
• Willingness to travel internationally and undergo extended security clearance.
