The Germany Team in UNICEF's Public Partnerships Division is looking for a university intern to support the team in shaping and building partnerships with assigned governments to achieve results for children worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity to obtain an in-depth understanding of the functioning of UNICEF and its work, from high-level political engagement to liaising with colleagues in the field and regional offices and across headquarters divisions. Under the direction of the Germany Team Senior Advisor, the intern will support various aspects of external relations, development and implementation of partner strategies and approaches for member states and respective thematic areas. Main tasks include:

1. Learn by supporting Partnership, Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Strategies with Member States:

Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, contribute to the partnership, advocacy, and resource mobilization strategies for assigned Member States.
Maintain up-to-date information on partner and income trends, analyze development assistance policies and keep resource partner profiles updated.
Support implementation of engagement plans and activities with the objectives of (1) increasing core and quality resources; (2) identifying possible sources of new and continued funding; and (3) advocating for child rights with selected partner countries.

2. Learn by supporting the Senior Advisor and other senior management for their strategic engagement with government partners and international forums:

Assist with the organization of partner consultations and other convenings with assigned partners.
Support with preparing briefing notes and any other documentation required by Senior Management for visits to and from assigned partners.
Participate in and summarize results from internal and external meetings with assigned resource partners.
Assist the Senior Advisor in managing day-to-day contacts with partners.


3. Assist the Public Partnerships Division and UNICEF at large in partner engagement at multilateral fora.


4. Learn by supporting the Senior Advisor and the broader Germany Team, as required, in providing guidance and support to UNICEF Field Offices on various partnerships matters, including contribution management and donor recognition.


To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

An academic and experience background in Social Sciences or related field, including a relevant background and interest in international relations, development and humanitarian assistance, resource mobilization and external relations.
Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Good command of Microsoft Windows working environment and applications, Excel, ability to produce presentations.
Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency contexts is considered an asset.
No immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.​​​​​​​
Fluency in English and German is required. Advanced knowledge of another official UN language (particularly French or Spanish) is an asset.
Additional consideration will be given to any past experience.
Modality: The internship is onsite in Berlin on a full-time basis. Working hours are flexible and agreed mutually with the supervisor. Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota.

Tentative start date: 1 June 2024 for 6 months (26 weeks). An internship may be terminated by either party, with a notice period of at least two weeks.

Salary/Payment: As per UNICEF guidelines, an intern will be paid a stipend of US $1,700 per month if based in New York or​​​​​ 70% of the monthly salary of the GS level 3 step 1 in other duty station if telework from outside. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
