Global Surgery Community
Dear all,
I realised that GHHG unfortunately does not have a community yet concerning the very important area of ECO care (emergency, critical and operative care), and I think that is something we should work on together!
Surgery and operative care is such a broad field, and includes besides common trauma care (now especially important in conflict and disaster zones), also significant parts of women's health (maternal health, FGM, breast cancer), child care, oncological care, pain management, emergency medicine, etc etc. There are already a few very good national and european/international organisations who focus on that, but I think it would be great if we could use our place and connections here as well!
Are you a surgeon, a gynaecologist, an anaethesiologist or someone else working in a sugical/operative field? Do you know someone that dows and would be interested?
What are your general thoughts about a Global Surgery Community?

Thank you for this wonderful idea!
I am working for the International Committee of the Red Cross in conflict and war areas covered by ICRC interventions since more than 20 years. Being anesthesiologist by profession I work in the operating theatre as well as in the management of surgical programs.
Especially LMI Countries hit by a conflict usually work with very limited resources and are in need of appropriate technical support as well as medical supplies. Being a clinician with huge practical experience in this field, I would like to use my specific knowledge to promote anesthesia performance and perioperative care.
Therefore, I am looking forward to participate in this surgical group.

There are more and more people showing interest in such an ECOcare community within GHHG and I really hope to soon be able to set up a first meeting to brainstorm ideas and opportunities. I personally are also very interested in acute crisis and conflict settings, and I think it would be a wonderful starting point for our new community! The final goal, however, is of course to provide support and expertise in all various surgical and operative situations.
Let me know if you have any ideas or know other people that would be interested in joining our newly emerging community.
