Taking stock ahead of International Day of Action for Women’s Health – Where does Germany stand?
Resolved Locked Unanswered
May 28 marks the International Day of Action for Women’s Health (and Menstrual Hygiene Day). This year’s focus is all about “Mobilising in critical times of threats and opportunities”. I would like to start a discussion on the progress as well as challenges and backlashes that we face in Germany with regard to sexual and reproductive health and rights and justice (SRHRJ).
How do you perceive the situation in Germany in general?

A rise in authoritarian tendencies and right-wing movements is visible globally and in Germany. Their agenda is based on anti-feminist thoughts. How can we counter this backlash and ensure we safeguard progress (past and future) towards SRHRJ?

Please share your perspective, ideas and insights! I am looking forward to an engaging and inspiring discussion!

Hi Hannah, a friend of mine is very engaged and passionate about HPV vaccination policies and research. Even though cervical cancers are often so easily prevented, it is still one of the most common cancers in women (especially of course in LMICs). Germany is very active in its screening programme, but we also have not yet achieved the WHO standard of cervical cancer elimination. For that, we have to increase vaccination rate among girls and (which occurs to be more and more important!) also among boys as they can be silent carriers.
Like I said, it is more the expertise of my collegue, but I wanted to include that important topic into the discussion!

Hi ladies, interesting topic indeed, and yes, unfortunately backlashes everywhere, a lot of Knowledge material was produced already, but still a lot of stigmatization and misinformation too.
two organizations I follow on these topics are:
1. https://gendro.org/
2. and state of the art data from https://eige.europa.eu/

keep up the good work!
kindest

Thank you, @Marie and @ildiko, for your inputs! I agree that Gendro and Eige are insightful organisations to follow at the intersection of gender/feminism and health. And with the recent EU election results, a strong feminist movement based on solidarity seems more important than ever...
